We welcome a compilation of very talented musicians performing together as a trio for the Sunday Music Showcase.
The Mood Area 52 + Baroque Betty Trio! Comprised of:
Michael Roderick of Mood Area 52 on guitar, accordion and vocals
Amy Danziger of Mood Area 52 on cello
and Betty Jaeger, the frontwoman of Baroque Betty on vocals and guitar
Mood Area 52 started in 1998 as a Piazzola inspired neo-tango and silent film score ensemble. Since then the group has morphed into an ensemble defined more by instrumentation and mood than genre. Their most recent releases, Find Some Kind of Light, Company Town, and 1952 Philanski House, blend roots rock, instrumental tango, jazz, blues, Balkan influences, ranchera, and American folk, country, Brechtian cabaret, and classical music. Baroque Betty:
Commentators who like to keep things neatly slotted into place have struggled with Baroque Betty, precisely because she defies simple categorization. Though the string-laden melodies occasionally anchor her in the territories of folk, bluegrass, or minimalist rock, she's more at home in the cracks in-between.
It’s from these quirky, deeper, sometimes darker places that Baroque Betty’s voice reaches up, takes you by the hand, and sweeps you along on an entrancing musical journey.
