Shook Twins:
Shook Twins have never been sonically confined to the indie-folk world in which they’ve become well-known artists. Identical twins Katelyn and Laurie Shook have always harnessed an adventurous spirit, never shy to incorporate beatboxing, banjo-head drumming, vocals using a repurposed telephone microphone, and other ambient sources within their arrangements. On their latest single, “Call Me Out”, Shook Twins once again take another leap from the acoustic music scene with a vibey, pop-infused soundscape with a poignant message ready to be embraced by the masses. Lush harmonies, delayed banjo pickin’, deep drums, and multi-layered lead vocals draw the listener into the band’s latest single.
“We feel strongly about holding each other accountable in this life,” says Laurie Shook. “There are a lot of distractions in the world, and it's easy to not be fully ‘awake;’ disrespectful; or to feel the need to ‘show and tell’ in order to prove your worth. When really all we need to be is good, honest human beings and everything will work out. ‘Call Me Out’ is about taking on the responsibility to help those around you become better people. To encourage them to live up to their fullest potential.”
Katelyn Shook adds, “Once we accepted that this song felt good with a poppy club approach it sort of opened the door of our ‘folk house’ we've been living in, and we felt more confident heading into the studio with no genre rules."
Shook Twins teamed up with hip hop producer Brody Bergholz (Indigital Studios) and longtime bandmate Niko Slice (electric guitar, electronic drums, bass) on “Call Me Out.” Bergholz worked as an engineer on Shook Twins’ first two studio albums, You Can Have The Rest and Window. Shook Twins are currently in the studio recording their next full-length studio album, due out in early 2019.
Since the release of their debut album, You Can Have The Rest, Shook Twins have shared the stage with the likes of Ryan Adams, Laura Veirs, Mason Jennings, Sarah Jarosz, Gregory Alan Isakov, Crooked Still, and many others. They’ve appeared at premiere festivals, including Summer Camp Music Festival (IL), Arise Music Festival (CO), High Sierra Music Festival (CA), Northwest String Summit (OR), Revival Fest (MN), Suwannee Hulaween (FL), and recently toured the UK and Germany.
