Operation: Food Rescue
September 22, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm$5.00 – $15.00
The second annual Operation: Food Rescue is an event to highlight the issues around our global food waste epidemic and to draw awareness to food that is wasted throughout the supply chain. This event is an effort to bring people and organizations spanning many sectors together to showcase the simple and fun solutions to reducing wasted food at home. Join us at WildCraft Cider Works from 4:30-7:30pm on Saturday, September 22nd.
This event features a spotlight on wonky and imperfect produce! Half of the produce grown in the U.S. is trashed because it’s bruised, misshapen, discolored or has some other deformity that’s non-threatening.
Additionally, the event will include a delicious meal made by Marché from would-be wasted ingredients with a suggested sliding scale donation of $5-15. No one will be turned away due to financial hardship. Tickets are available online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/operation-food-rescue-tickets-47311803879 or will be available in-person on the day-of the event. Donations for the event will go to Willamette Farm & Food Coalition‘s Double Up Food Bucks Program. Live music by Corwin Bolt and the Wingnuts and the North Eugene Ukulele Allstars!
This event could not be possible without our amazing food donor partners:
– Lane County Farmers Market
– Ambrosia Farm
– Organic Redneck
– Sweet Leaf Organics
– Red Hat Melons
– The Bread Stop Bakery
– Winter Green Farm
– Turnip the Beet Farm
– Circle h Farm
– The OG Corner Market
There will also be kid-friendly games and fun activities for people of all ages. Including an imperfect-produce giveaway sponsored by Willamette Farm & Food Coalition, a free food-waste themed photo booth by Smile Photo Booth, Wildcraft’s Community Apple Drive, and an “ugly” fruit and veg photo contest with prizes!
